MAKE YOUR OWN BATH ADDITIVE: EXOTIC MILK BATH WITH COCONUT

The ancient Egyptians already knew that a milk bath is a real pampering program for the skin. But a tub full of milk can be expensive. Fortunately, you can easily make a cheap bath additive yourself with the help of skimmed milk powder! With today’s milk bath DIY, you treat yourself to a real luxury program for little money.

Milk powder is the inexpensive alternative to milk, with which you can make your bath additive. In well-stocked supermarkets, you will find milk powder with condensed milk and long-life milk. With this powder, you can not only implement delicious recipes but also do something good for the body and make a very simple bath additive yourself! In combination with coconut, in addition to a stunningly good scent, there is also an extra portion of care. So it doesn’t take much for a pampering program à la Cleopatra! Some relaxing music and a gently scented candle perfectly round off the spa feeling in your bathroom.

The addition of grated coconut is especially good for dry skin because coconut contains a lot of fat, which mixes with the hot bathwater. And it’s not difficult at all to make this pampering bath additive yourself. You can find all the ingredients for the milk bath in the supermarket at a reasonable price: I bought milk powder, grated coconut, and sea salt for less than 5 EUR. It doesn’t matter whether you mix this bath additive for your own home spa or as a gift: In just 5 minutes you can mix your own ingredients into a wonderfully nourishing milk bath!

Instructions: Make your own bath additive for a milk bath with coconut

Level: very easy | Duration: 5 min | Cost: R

You need:

  • 2 cups skimmed milk powder
  • 1 Tasse Kokosraspeln
  • 2 handfuls of sea salt

bath additive tip

In order to remove the oils from the coconut flakes, they are first ground a little. This can be done in a mortar or in a food processor. The rasps should not be completely ground, otherwise, a paste will result. But the rasps should have a better grip than before they were ground – a bit like moist sand for building sandcastles!

READER TIP: You can put the grated coconut in the freezer before grinding. This keeps the structure of the rasps a little longer.

If the sea salt is very coarse, you can also crush it in a mortar. Now the skimmed milk powder and the sea salt can be added to the grated coconut. Mix all the ingredients with a fork so there are no lumps. You can then fill the milk bath in a decorative bottle or mason jar. That’s it – the coconut milk bath is ready!

The quantity is sufficient for approx. 8 full baths.

With the homemade milk bath, a real spa feeling returns to the bathroom at home. If you don’t need a full bath or don’t have a tub at home, you can also use the mix for your hands and feet. And of course, the homemade bath additive is also great as a gift.

Why make your own bath additive?

That’s all well and good, one or the other reader is bound to think. I can probably just buy a ready-made milk bath from a store, so why make it yourself? As a big DIY nerd and sustainability junkie, I can only say: Making your own bath additive – or other natural cosmetics such as body butterbody scrub, or even face powder  – has great advantages!

On the one hand, you can control which ingredients are in the handmade natural cosmetics. No preservatives, unwanted fragrances, or even plastic! You can also specifically omit allergenic substances from the recipe. Incidentally, so does the packaging of ready-made care products. Anyone who pays attention to sustainable packaging of the DIY ingredients can easily produce their zero-waste cosmetics!

In some cases, making your own natural cosmetics is also particularly cheap. It is true that some ingredients from DIY cosmetics (such as vitamin E drops* or almond oil *) are somewhat more expensive when initially purchased. However, they have recipes for many different natural cosmetics and can easily keep up with store-bought skincare products when it comes to high-quality ingredients. And especially with the DIY milk bath, rather cheap ingredients come together that result in a good amount of bath additive!

Last but not least, it also makes you a bit proud when you can make your cosmetics yourself. You become a professional when it comes to ingredients and can simply mix together the right care product for your own needs – or mix an individual gift for friends and family!

With this in mind, I wish you lots of fun making your own DIY milk bath!
